Apron

This month is all about jumping right into summer by celebrating some of the things we most love about Texas and the warm weather — barbecue, beer and fun.

Carrie and Mark Ermence, owners of Lone Star Roots, a DFW-based company that specializes in fashionable and vintage Texas T-Shirts, hats and gifts, definitely have summer fun on their minds right now.

With tons of festivals every weekend throughout the summer, it really is the perfect time of year to celebrate all the things we love about Texas. And luckily for all of us who live in North Texas, there are many ways to do just that.

“This month we are bringing our barbecue-themed items to festivals all around the Dallas area,” Carrie said. “We’ve got things that everyone loves to wear, from barbecue T-shirts to hats to aprons."

Some of their favorites and new options include aprons that say things like “Your Opinion Wasn’t in the Recipe” and “Every Butt Deserves a Good Rub.”

With it being a month when Dad is on our minds, Carrie also mentioned favorites like a mug that says “You’re My Favorite Husband,” and t-shirts like their “America Grilling” shirt or for Dad’s that love camping and lake life ”Camping Without Beer” or “Lake”. Then there’s the Dad who loves beer with the good ol’ “Beer.” shirt or “Drink Local” t-shirts. They have lots of Texas coasters and of course humorous gift ideas from their El Arroyo collection.

“People love the things that appeal to Texas dads,” Carrie said.

In 2019, Carrie's Dad passed away from heart disease. One of the first charities she and Mark donated to after launching Lone Star Roots was the American Heart Association. In their logo is a heart that is nestled into the state of Texas, which is done to serve in memory for Carrie’s Dad.

Bring on the fun

Carrie, with a laugh, calls herself the pop-up princess, based on all of the events she and Mark attend promoting Lone Star Roots.

“We are about that community feel,” she said. “We love going to events because they allow us to meet our customers, they become our friends and family. It gives them the chance to see what we are all about.”

It’s hard to miss Lone Star Roots at local events throughout North Texas. They are the tent that usually has two mannequins featured outside, that are all based around a theme.

Carrie mentioned that laughter is also what brings people back who in turn bring their friends and family. "Lots of folks buying summer family reunion shirts; we love it," she said.

So where have they been this summer? Everywhere from the Celina Friday Night Market to a barbecue festival in Irving.

You can still catch them at Celina's big Fourth of July celebration. Here are the details on that one:

• Why go: It’s Celina's annual Fourth of July celebration featuring family-friendly outdoor activities including market and food vendors, live music, an all-ages kids zone, and fireworks.

• Where: Old Celina Park, 12670 FM 428, Celina

• When: July 2, 5 p.m.-10 p.m.

• Why Carrie loves it: “It’s a ton of fun. And the fireworks show is spectacular,” Carrie said.
